Pleasure is for everyone, no matter the body you're in. But for people with disabilities, accessible sex toys can be hard to find—in fact, there really isn't one single toy that's "best" for folks with disabilities. "Very few toys are made for disabled people, so people have to think about how they generally want to use them," explains Evan Sweeney, founder of the Cripping Up Sex website and podcast. "Do they want G-spot stimulation, or do they like anal, for example? Then they must consider the most important features, like whether they need a lightweight toy or easy-to-use buttons. Once they have figured out these questions, narrowing down the right toy for them is easier."

While very few toys are designed with disabled bodies in mind, some toys have features that are useful for people with disabilities. "There are a lot of things where they're not necessarily designed for access, but they can increase access if that makes sense," says Alex Iantaffi, an AASECT-certified sex therapist, author, and speaker whose areas of specialty include disability and sexuality. Think: a sex toy holder that straps onto a pillow or affixes to a flat surface for someone to grind against it, or a hand harness that helps keep a toy in place when someone can't hold it in place with their hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most Versatile Accessory: Liberator Wedge

Liberator

Wedge

Why we love it: "If you have chronic pain, or if you're having a flareup of certain symptoms, or if you just have trouble with muscle tone and can't hold up parts of your body in certain ways: pillows and wedges all the way," says Nellie Galindo, founder of Accessible Sexual Health. The Liberator Wedge is a sex pillow (with a washable cover) that makes it easier to get into and maintain certain positions during sex. The unique design also allows for deeper penetration if you or your partner is lying with it wedged beneath the hips, or it can support your head during oral sex. The possibilities are basically endless!

Editor's tip: You can also buy the Fascinator Birdi sex toy strap from the Liberator store, which securely holds a dildo or vibrator on the wedge, allowing you to ride it or grind against it if holding a toy in your hand isn't comfortable.

Type: sex pillow | Material: microfiber, polyester, polyurethane

Best Waterproof Sex Toy: LELO Gigi 2

Why we love it: Sweeney notes that one strategy is to think outside the box when shopping for sex toys. Just because a toy is marketed for a certain use doesn't mean that's the only use, after all. “For example, if you only want clitoral stimulation but need a longer toy, using a G-spot vibrator externally is a great option,” Sweeney says. The LELO Gigi 2 is ideal for both the G-spot and clit, thanks to the wide, flat tip that offers rumbly vibrations inside and out. Plus, it's totally waterproof, so it looks like a long, luxurious bath or shower with this toy is in order.

Type: internal/external vibrator | Material: body-safe silicone, ABS plastic | Modes: 8 | Waterproof: yes | Battery: up to 4 hours of runtime | Lube Compatibility: water-based lube

Best Hands-Free Shower Toy: Lovability WaterSlyde Aquatic Stimulator

Lovability

WaterSlyde Aquatic Stimulator

Why we love it: This TikTok-famous sex tool is almost entirely hands-free, making it accessible for people whose disability makes it challenging to grip a toy. It attaches to your bathtub faucet using a Velcro strap and diverts the flow of the water toward the middle of the tub. Just position your clit underneath the flow of water and let the pleasure wash over you.

Editor's tip: If you're used to getting off with vibrators, you may find that this offers a slower, gentler buildup. Put on some mood music and take your time.

Type: aquatic stimulator | Material: resin, velcro, self-gripping ribbon | Waterproof: yes

Best Sex Toy Mount: Lovehoney Hands-Free Sex Toy Holder

Lovehoney

Hands-Free Sex Toy Holder

Why we love it: Lovehoney's Hands-Free Sex Toy Holder is an affordable device with a strong suction cup base and two Velcro straps to hold a toy in place. You can also adjust the angle of the toy from the base. There are a ton of ways to use this: Attach a vibrator and grind against it for hands-free pleasure, use it to secure a fleshlight so you can thrust in and out, put a dildo in the straps, and start riding—the world is your oyster.

Editor's tip: The suction cup base can be stuck to any flat surface, like shower tiles or a bedroom wall.

Type: sex toy holder | Material: PVC, velcro | Waterproof: yes

Best Sex Toy for Couples: We-Vibe Chorus

Why we love it: This wearable vibrator is easy to incorporate into either partnered sex or solo self-care. Like many We-Vibe toys, it's possible to control through an app. Manual operation is "trickier at times for both mobility and sensory reasons," says Dr. Iantaffi, so app-enabled devices may remove some roadblocks. You can also pass the remote to a partner and let them control the speed and intensity.

Editor's tip: You (or someone else) can program a custom voice command to open and close an app.

Type: internal/external vibrator | Material: ABS and body-safe silicone | Modes: 10 (plus bonus modes in the app) | Waterproof: yes, but the remote is not | Battery: 90 minutes | Lube compatibility: water-based lube

Best for People Who Are Paraplegic or Quadriplegic: IntimateRider Sex Chair

Living Spinal

IntimateRider Sex Chair

Why we love it: Dr. Iantaffi and Galindo both mentioned the IntimateRider Sex Chair as a sex toy option for people who are paraplegic or quadriplegic. It's a small swing chair that glides back and forth, allowing you to thrust against a partner by moving your upper torso. And if you can't move your upper torso, your partner can get the motion started so you can move together.

Editor's tip: You can also buy the IntimateRider Sex Chair with the RiderMate Deluxe Wedge System (also available separately) for more comfortable penetration. Need a chair with additional support? There's also the IntimateRider High Back Sex Chair, which has four extra inches of height on the back panel.

Type: chair | Material: steel, nylon

Best Wand Vibrator: Fun Factory Vim

Why we love it: The generous length and flexible head of Fun Factory Vim make it easy to maneuver this toy exactly where you want it. Iantaffi recommends this toy for people who prefer a gentler vibration. “If a wand has strong vibrations and you have a neuropathy in your hand, for example, that can increase pain," they note.

Editor's tip: One of Fun Factory's suggestions for using the toy is to attach or nestle it into a pillow and grind yourself against it. This can be a particularly nice option for people whose disability makes it challenging to hold a wand vibrator for long periods.

Type: wand vibrator | Material: body-safe silicone, aluminum | Modes: 5 speeds, 3 patterns | Waterproof: no, water-resistant | Battery: up to 6 hours | Lube compatibility: water-based lube

Best Suction Toy: Lovehoney Rose Clitoral Suction Stimulator

Lovehoney

Rose Clitoral Suction Stimulator

Why we love it: Dr. Iantaffi says that suction toys like the rose toy can be useful for people with disabilities that affect their hands because they provide a lot of stimulation without requiring intense hand motion. This TikTok-famous sex toy provides oh-so-pleasurable fluttering suction around the clit, nipples, or any other external erogenous zones. It has 10 intensity levels and a straightforward two-button interface.

Editor's tip: Add a dab of water-based lube to the mouth of the toy for an extra-smooth ride.

Type: suction vibrator | Material: silicone | Modes: 10 | Waterproof: yes | Battery: 110 minutes | Lube compatibility: water-based lube

Best Disabled-Led Company: Cute Little F*ckers Starsi

Cute Little Fuckers

Starsi

Why we love it: Sweeney shares that Cute Little F*ckers is a company that makes toys designed by and for people with disabilities. Starsi is a gender-inclusive toy that can be used in a variety of ways. If you have hand disabilities, you can put this on a pillow and grind against it. You can also hold this against your clit, penis, nipples, or any other erogenous zones.

Editor's tip: If you prefer pinpoint stimulation, use the tips of the stars where the vibrations are more intense.

Type: external vibrator | Material: silicone | Modes: five speeds and five patterns | Waterproof: yes | Battery: 110 minutes | Lube compatibility: water-based lube

Best Harness: La Palma Hand Harness

SpareParts

La Palma Hand Harness

Why we love it: Shop Enby included the La Palma Hand Harness in a recent Instagram post featuring toys and accessories for people with disabilities. Like a hip harness, it's designed to hold a toy in place using the ring at the base. This hand harness can be useful for people who find it difficult to grip objects for an extended period. You can use a dildo or vibrator on yourself or someone else without your hand getting overworked.

Editor's tip: There are specific left- and right-hand harnesses, so consider which hand you use more when getting down before you purchase. It's also available in XS/S, M/L, and XL sizes.

Type: hand harness | Material: velcro

Best Penis Toy: Blowmotion Suction Vibrating Male Masturbator

Lovehoney

Lovehoney Blowmotion Suction Vibrating Male Masturbator

Why we love it: People who have a penis and a condition like cerebral palsy or arthritis may want to try this toy. With a penis sleeve, "You don't need as much steady hand motion to reach orgasm," explains Dr. Iantaffi. This one is especially luxe, as it's designed with two speeds, four vibration modes, and three suction modes that feel oh-so-good.

Editor's tip: It may be marketed as a masturbator, but there's no reason you can't incorporate this into partnered sex. You could ask a partner to bring you right to the brink of orgasm (a.k.a. edging) with this toy or allow them to go all the way to the grand finale.

Type: penis sleeve | Material: soft plastic | Modes: two speeds, four vibration settings, three suction modes | Waterproof: splashproof | Battery: 80 minutes | Lube compatibility: water-based lube

Best for Penetration: Ohnut Depth-Limiting Rings

Ohnut

Depth-Limiting Rings

Why we love it: Dr. Iantaffi notes that for people with pelvic pain or chronic pain conditions, a tool like the Ohnut Depth-Limiting Rings can make penetration more comfortable. The silicone rings go around the base of a toy or penis and make it impossible to penetrate too deeply. Use one ring if you only want to reduce depth slightly and up to four to reduce penetrative depth by a lot.

Editor's tip: These rings can also make sex more comfortable for people who are postpartum, menopausal, or have endometriosis. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable during sex!

Type: penis rings | Material: body-safe polymer | Waterproof: yes | Lube compatibility: water-based lube, silicone-based lube

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some of the challenges disabled people face when shopping for sex toys?

If you have a disability, you already know that many things in our society are not built with disabled bodies in mind. Historically, this has also applied to sex toys, but this is slowly changing thanks to businesses like Cute Little F*ckers, a disabled-owned, queer-owned, and trans-owned company.

Beyond that, there's also a stigma around sex and disability. "The assumption is that if your body is not 'ideal,' then you are not desirable or sexy and that you are inherently asexual. This cannot be further from the truth," says Nellie Galindo, founder of Accessible Sexual Health.

What sex toys are best for someone with a disability?

All three experts Allure spoke with for this story emphasized that all bodies are different, and therefore no one type of sex toy is best for someone with a disability.

You'll want to look for a toy that offers the type of stimulation you find most pleasurable, whether that's centered on your G-spot, clit, penis, anus, nipples, or anywhere else. If your disability impacts how you use sex toys, look for a toy or adaptive device that meets your needs. For instance, if holding a vibrator or fleshlight steadily in your hand is out of the question, attach it to a pillow or sex toy holder and grind against it—or choose a hands-free toy. If your disability or chronic pain makes sex painful or simply not as pleasurable as you'd like, consider accessories like the Liberator Wedge or the Ohnuts Depth-Limiting rings to make things more comfortable.

You can also find creative ways to adapt sex toys for your body. "Disabled folks, we've always been just like queer folks, very creative in finding solutions," says Dr. Iantaffi. "We have that innate creativity and drive to pleasure, I think, as humans."

Where can I learn more about sex and disability?

In addition to looking at the work of the experts featured in this story, you can also seek out podcasts, books, and social media accounts dedicated to sex and disability.

Dr. Iantaffi suggests the film Sins Invalid: An Unshamed Claim to Beauty, the podcast Disability After Dark with Andrew Gurza, the book The Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability: For All of Us Who Live with Disabilities, Chronic Pain, and Illness, and the comic book guide A Quick & Easy Guide to Sex & Disability.
